Questions about compiling from an uber newbie
Posted by: kabacho - 03-04-2017, 02:21 AM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

So, i'm trying to compile mGBA for Windows using cmake-3.8.0 and MinGW.

What I want to accomplish is create a .exe that can deployed like the one you download from this website.

So I launch cmake and I get all sorts of missing directories (among them qt5, pnglib, zlib...). So I uncheck so options and the thing finally compiles 100%.

The problem is a end up with a libmgba.a file. (1)What am I supposed to do with this library?

(2) If I properly link all the libraries, will I end up with a .exe instead of the libmgba.a file?

(3)Are any of those libraries optional?

Thank you. Tongue

  Sound Quality & Palette Customizing
Posted by: Lightcatcher - 02-27-2017, 05:49 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

First of all: Thanks for this awesome piece of software! I'm using GB,GBC,GBA emulators since 2009 (VBA, VBA Smooth & VBA-M) and just discovered mGBA yesterday. Today I gave it a shot and now I'm really amazed. In less than 2 hours of testing mGBA became my favourite. Impressive!
VBA don't have filters, VBA Smooth is buggy with some games (freeze when using dungeon map in Zelda OoA/OoS e.g.) and always shows a black bar at the bottom edge. VBA-M feels laggy against VBA and VBASmooth.
But mGBA doesn't show any of these problems. It even works with games that crashes with VBA-M! And the visual quality (after some filter adjusting) is the best I've ever seen in GBA emulators. So... thanks!  Smile

There are just 2 issues for me. But I'm sure this is the right place to clear them.

1) Most important: Sound Quality
In comparison with the VBA emulators mGBA sounds worse. Especially with GB and GBC games. The sound is slighty distorted (good to hear with deeper tones) and just misses the clarity I have with the VBA's. And is it normal that "SDL" is the only option for "Audio driver"? Is there any workaround to get a better audio quality?
I'm using an external usb sound card (FiiO E10K Olympus 2).

2) Palette Customizing
The option to change the colors of the background and the sprites was my favourite feature of the VBA's. In mGBA I just found the option to save palettes from games but not to change them. Am I blind or is this a feature that doesn't exist at the moment? If not: Is this on your agenda? Pleeeeeaaaase!  Wink

Thanks a lot!
Greetings from Germany

Lighti

It's pretty accurate, is it not?

Also I'm pretty sure this is not spam, due to it at least having some context.

Little Request: add save file Time/Date to load/save menu
Posted by: Vortaka - 02-22-2017, 08:53 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Hi!  This emulator is great!  Fast, reliable, efficient!  There are just some little things that would be cool to add...

- First, add the save file Time/Date tag (modified) to the load/save menu...  (Currently, it's only slot 1, slot 2, etc...).  Asking this cause I screw around a lot with some game...  Save a lot and I do not always remember the order I save them in.  So adding the save file modified Time/Date tag to the menu, it would be easier (and would let me play instead of opening the explorer and checking is MGba folder).  The load recent is a very nice touch!

- Auto load cheat table would be nice...  It's not THAT painful to load them manually, but it annoys some time...  just a little!  Maybe, when you save, it's named automatically ("file name of the game".cht or something) and placed in "/Cheat" folder...  (With an autoload checkbox in the cheat table or in the menu?  Or in the settings?)

Great job!  Keep up the good work!

Vortaka

P.S. You should recheck the load recent cause I just selected it and it loaded a previous save but the the latest/last one I did... I loaded the 3rd (F3) and the last one (most recent) was the 2nd (F2)...

  Using cheat codes on 2ds
Posted by: Cheddar - 02-05-2017, 07:39 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Recently I've been playing Pokémon Crystal on the mGBA emulator for 3ds/2ds

I want to be able to use cheats and the best answer I've been able to find on this forum was a post about a year ago that said it couldn't be done on the 3ds version.

Is this still true?
If not could I have some instruction on where and how to enter cheat codes... Angel
