mGBA crashes when loading ROM file
Posted by: Atsix - 01-12-2018, 12:23 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Hi everyone,
I'm having a weird problem with mGBA. When I try to load a ROM file, the emulator crashes, and I get notified that "mGBA has stopped working". I tried both loading a ROM file from the emulator dropdown menu and also associating the ROM files with the emulator and just clicking on them, but the emulator crashes in both ways. I tested it with four different ROM files, and mGBA crashes with all of them.

I'm running Windows 8.1, and I've tried using both mGBA 0.6.1 stable release and the latest build (build-2018-01-10-win32-4990-6f5ec7d5e46a22524fa0e4f1b1f46582a28b4101), but both emulator versions crash when loading a ROM.

I've also tried running mGBA.exe as an administrator and also running it with compatibility mode set to Windows 7 and Windows XP SP3, but nothing worked.

If someone could help me out with this problem, I would be very thankful.

  Connectivity with actual GBA

Are there any plans to make the Wii port able to connect to actual GBA via GCN-GBA cable?

How to use mgba for code/data separation???????????
Posted by: wavedevice - 12-30-2017, 08:31 PM - Forum: Development - Replies (1)

What I need is the following: log all the states of the program counter and the rombank number, so that I can use the addresses to differ between what are variables/instructions/tilemaps/graphics, etc.
I was going to use some very crazy hack (ptrace in linux) to do such a thing. But if I use the source code of mgba this could be much easier and less time consuming.
Where in the source code I can find the routines that modify/read the pc(program counter) and rombank number?

There is some documentation about the data structures used in the source code?

Just to clarify, my final objective is to create a tool for code/data separation, for reverse engineering gbc roms. A feature similar to code/data separation that exists in Emulicious emulator, this tool will be enhanced for automated data structures extraction and recompilation.

The 3DS port can't relocate save files and pictures by editing the config file.

I've tried savegamePath=sd:/mGBA/saves/, then savegameDirectory, then =/mGBA/saves/, a bunch of stuff to no avail. Either it doesn't work, or I've been calling it the wrong thing all this time.

Please help, how do I fix an upside down screen that is also flickering?
Posted by: Donnie607494 - 12-18-2017, 07:52 AM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

I just downloaded gba for the first time on my window 7 laptop. I downloaded 7zip and winrar shortly after. Not sure if doing it in that order had something to do with the upside screen and flickering that keeps happening. How can I fix this? I attached an image below of what I keep seeing.

  Setting resolution for Fullscreen Mode
Posted by: Marcelo20XX - 12-18-2017, 12:04 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Amazing emulator so far, I wanted to know if there is an option or a command line option that can set the fullscreen resolution, currently it switch to your desktop which if you are at a too high resolution it is a killer in combination with the enhancement shaders...

I am trying to play Pokemon fire red. (Dont know if that matters)

Forgot to say, if I try to open it, it only opens the other one and it goes into a loop...

Bugs in a Couple More Games
Posted by: Hot Violet - 12-16-2017, 10:40 AM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

Hey. I've come across a couple of games with issues in mGBA.

The first is Penny Racers (E) AKA Gadget Racers (U) or Choro Q Advance (J)

This game runs fine but the main player car sprite is all glitched up. It's the same in all 3 versions.

The other game is Rampage Puzzle Attack.

The game loads fine but the sound is borked. Nothing but screeches and whines. In the RetroArch build there is no sound at all.

These bugs occur in the latest dev build, 0.6.1 and the RetroArch version.

I hope it's okay to post the bugs here - I didn't see a general bugs thread. But I am old and blind so might've missed it!

can mgba do this specific probably overly complicated thing?
Posted by: Flamesofshadow - 12-11-2017, 03:49 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

i came to this forum as i discovered mgba may possibly be what i seek, although like other emulators/ programs it may not be but its worth asking as it seems interesting even if not possible for my purpose.

i have something specific i wish to do which requires me to connect a real gba to mgba (on a wii), use cheat codes on something, and send it back to the real gba.

more elaboratly, i wish to use mgba with a real gba (with and without sonic advance games) and the two sonic adventure gamecube games for the purpose of moving/ getting special chao pets with codes/ or through raising them on the chao garden in the gba games. if that makes sense.

i wish to know if this is possible, so far no emulators/programs have this ability (plus gbas tend not to connect to pc emulators, and wii based ones are not well used any more), i have a working gamecube capable wii, a real gba, and the gnc-gba cable but as i dont have the sonic advance games, nor a cheat device for gba any longer, it is far harder for me to work with and having the ability to transfer chao through the gcn to my real gba and then to the mgba for temporary purposes, and then back again would be very helpful but i dont know if this is possible or if it could be set up by someone somehow.
