MGBA save from Vita to Android/Retroid
Posted by: Aurizen - 01-02-2024, 12:46 AM - Forum: General - No Replies

I'm considering getting a Retroid, which is an android handheld emulator and want to use a GBA emulator and MGBA seems to be an option. I am wondering if all my saves will carry over from my Vita version of MGBA to the Retroid MGBA Any ideas?

Question Rewind Only Once?
Posted by: elryc - 12-19-2023, 10:01 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Running 0.10.2, every time I try to rewind, it will jump back the number of frames I've set for the rewind all at once, then stop. Is there any way to jump back more steps?

Experiencing a bug when running Ereader ROM in a multiplayer window
Posted by: zoa376 - 12-05-2023, 07:57 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to use an ereader rom to inject the dlc into my copy of pokemon ruby, however whenever I load the ereader rom in the multiplayer window, the game runs at ~6000-10000 fps. I haven't been able to find a way slow the rom down and it can read ereader code while its running so fast. I tried swapping the roms, ereader on the first window and ruby on the 2nd, and ruby didn't speed up like the ereader does. This would be a solution however I believe ereader injection is one way, mimicing how link cables are one way as well. Has anyone had this bug before and found a fix or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Need help with D-pad not working.
Posted by: DRibeiro - 12-04-2023, 09:06 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

I'm not at all well-versed in these things, so I'm sure I must've done something wrong, but the D-pad on Pizza Boy doesn't work when I start a new game with that new version (my old save from patch 1.1 doesn't work with this patch 1.2).
When I tap the D-pad on the screen nothing happens, but the Start, A, and B buttons work. I haven't changed any settings from their defaults.

The old patch 1.1 save file works just fine.
For reference, I linked the video where SmithPlays talked about the new patch below.

If I'm doing something wrong, or if you have idea how to fix it, please let me know.

Question I apologize, but I am lost.
Posted by: SwordNomad04 - 12-04-2023, 05:16 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

Alright, here is my problem. Again, I apologize, I am positive this has been brought up before. I play on a modded GameCube using Picoboot and Swiss. I have emgba.dol on the root of my sd card. The app works fine, games run fantastic, but my issue is saving. Games will state saves were successful, and a .sav file is even created, but after opening the game again after the system is turned off, the save files aren't there. So, I loaded mgba on my pc, played for 10 minutes, created a save file, moved the save to my gamecube SD card, and booted it up. Cool, the save appears when I open the game. I play for a bit, save, and shut off the console. Upon reopening the game later, the save file is there, but no new data was written to it during my session on the console. It is still where I stopped on pc. I am assuming the gamecube emgba isn't writing new data, and can only read data. That is just my guess. I don't know what to do, and I need help. I am sorry if this was obvious or is a frequent question.

Star "RAM watch" on a real running GBA (Pokémon Ruby)
Posted by: Mario3646 - 11-28-2023, 03:40 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Hi, guys! I have a question, maybe one of you could be the one who will solve my problem 😉
Is it possible to retrieve or read data from the RAM of a GBA while it's still on (through a custom link cable or other hardware, for example, possibly cartswapping)? Example: I fled from a Pokémon, but I want to recover or read its 100-byte data still present in RAM (let's assume I have not initiated a new Pokémon battle nor turned off the system). In a few words, can I "RAM watch" my GBA (without turning it off or making a trade, that would wipe out the wild Pokémon data from memory) in the same way you can do it on mGBA? Let me know! A money prize will be awarded for the eventual problem solver 😎.
P.S.: Possible theoretical way to do it (https://youtu.be/yZ3_5nhSzi0?si=Sho4hEwvgnVa1p4X)

Accessing GB ROM Banks from Lua
Posted by: Zunawe - 11-23-2023, 09:08 PM - Forum: Development - Replies (2)

I'm writing a script meant to run with arbitrary games that can read data and send it over a socket. It doesn't look like there's a way to directly read ROM data for GB games. Only `memory.cart0`. So if the script is asked to return data in bank 4 or whatever it may not be addressable and the data is unknowable. Any chance I'm missing some obscure way to get at the ROM? I'm much less familiar with GB/GBC than GBA, so let me know if I'm mistaken about something.

I'm coming from the context of BizHawk which uses Gambatte and does allow access to the entire ROM from lua under the domain they label "ROM".
