FOSDEM 2018 Retrocomputing DevRoom Call for Participation
Posted by: pgquiles - 10-18-2017, 10:14 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

FOSDEM is a free software event that offers open source communities a place
to meet, share ideas and collaborate. It is renown for being highly
developer-oriented and brings together 8000+ participants from all over the
world. It is held in the city of Brussels (Belgium).

FOSDEM 2018 will take place during the weekend of February 3rd-4th 2018.
More details about the event can be found at http://www.fosdem.org.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

The Retrocomputing DevRoom is a first-timer at FOSDEM, with talks about use
of older computing hardware and software in modern times.

Presentation topics could include but are not limited to:

  -

Emulation of old systems to run videogames, legacy software, etc
  -

  Open source software emulation/simulation
  -

  Open hardware
  -

  Operating systems/executives for retrocomputers/retrosystems
  -

  Uses of retrocomputing today
  -

  Other retrosystems topics
  -

  Opportunities in retrocomputing

You are not limited to slide presentations, of course. Be creative.
However, FOSDEM is an open source conference, therefore we ask you to stay
clear of marketing presentations. We are not afraid of technical stuff:
devrooms are a place for development teams to meet, discuss, hack and
publicly present their project’s latest improvements and future directions.

If you will have special needs for your talk (e. g. because you will need
to plug some sort of a system), please note that clearly in your proposal
so that we can provide it.

You can use the Wikipedia definition of retrocomputing as a reference
definition to see if you talk qualifies, although it is not exclusive:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retrocomputing

working, both for remote/later viewing of talks, and so that people can
watch streams in the hallways when rooms are full. This requires speakers
to consent to being recorded and streamed.

If you plan to be a speaker, please understand that by doing so you
implicitly give consent for your talk to be recorded and streamed.

The recordings will be published under the same license as all FOSDEM
content (CC-BY).

Hope to hear from you soon! And please forward this announcement.

Adding shortcut in settings to adjust volume
Posted by: Bingo - 10-06-2017, 03:05 AM - Forum: Development - Replies (1)

Hi, I was wondering if during the next release it could be added an option to increase/decrease volume in settings-shortcuts menu using the keyboard or gamepad right know theres only one for mute, but for me it would be useful to add those as well, keep the good work  Big Grin

Scratchy sound on Game Boy games (Wii)
Posted by: Maeson - 10-02-2017, 11:55 AM - Forum: General - No Replies

Hi! I've seen mGBA has been updated to 0.6.1, which are great news!

I tried it for a bit on the Wii, and seems to work nicely, but I've noticed that GB/C games still crackle.
I don't know if there is something I can do to solve this (Like, for example, edit the Config file), or if it's just like that for now, but I wanted to ask just in case.

Thank you in advance.

Smile Posting Bugs
Posted by: Dodain47 - 10-01-2017, 07:00 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

Hello Endrift.  Smile

I got your message about notifying you about the bugs.

Well my plan was to first create an wiki list from A to Z for the user.

Then compare heavy bugs in version 0.6.0 with the latest nightly or even
stable and send the results to you.

Nice knowing that there is an update on the Horizon.

Force GBC/SGB mode in GB games?
Posted by: ShadowOne333 - 09-26-2017, 08:04 PM - Forum: General - Replies (13)

Hello there.

I've been playing a lot of GB lately, and I notice that non GBC games usually boot in black and white.
I was wondering if there is a way to make GB which have special palettes when played in GBC to be loaded up with mGBA.
Same thing goes for games with special palettes when booted through SGB, like Metroid II.

I believe this is related to the Gameboy Color BIOS having some palettes stored in its data usually linked to the ROM's specific header, though I'm not sure if this is actually the case.

A more in-depth information about the Gameboy games being colorized in GBC mode is found here:
https://tcrf.net/Notes:Game_Boy_Color_Bootstrap_ROM

So with that said, the question is, can we boot games like Kirby's Dream Land in color in any way with the current mGBA builds? Or is this still in planning / not implemented into it yet?

  Cheats not saving
Posted by: no - 09-25-2017, 10:02 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

So I'm trying to enter a cheat to add Shiny Gyarados into my Pokemon Emerald ROM. I cross-checked my codes to make sure they were correct via three different sources, and am positive they were entered correctly (via "Add Gameshark" and "Add" functions). However, when I reboot my game, the cheats have disappeared. Am I missing a step?

Question Mother 3 ENG Saving Freeze on 3DS Homebrew if Save States are loaded beforehand
Posted by: GamerGuy500 - 09-23-2017, 05:08 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

So, for a long time I was using some old version of mGBA dating before August of this year.
I gave myself a challenge of playing MOTHER 1+2 and MOTHER 3 using mGBA on 3DS homebrew and using the save slots to bookmark progress.

In MOTHER 3 a weird oddity occurred where every time I'd go to write save data to the SAV using the in-game save menu, it'd just freeze right as it said "Saving..." and nothing got written to the SAV.
Turns out if you load a state beforehand, it just kinda crashes... and you have to hold the 3DS power button to get out.

Using New 3DS on whatever version can be "haxxed" with N3DS_U_27648_usa_9221.bin although I'm not sure if an issue like this is unique to any system version or system specs.

Bringing this up because the ending of the game writes data to the SAV which froze the game for me one time I got past the last boss.

  Trading in Pokémon.
Posted by: Meliodas - 09-17-2017, 03:31 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

Whenever I try to trade in any pokemon roms the game does not work in the multiplayer tab and gets a white screen, but if I close the first tab, the second starts working just fine.

How do I change the save type to 128k?
Posted by: fyre4000 - 09-08-2017, 08:58 PM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

I'm trying to play Ultra Violet, but it says save error whenever I try to save. I tried to look for the option, but couldn't find it.
