  Disabling Audio
Posted by: Boku544 - 02-26-2018, 07:28 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Would it be possible to implement the option to disable audio emulation in order to increase performance in the portable builds of mGBA?

I remember from when I was a young lad that disabling the audio in VBA would increase the speed of emulation. I wonder if something similar could be applied to mGBA for a performance boost.

I can imagine something like this greatly improving the usability of the emulator on the 3DS and Vita, mainly the Vita. This could also have the benefit of allowing a Vita user to play their own music whilst in mGBA without it clashing against a given game's music (looking at you Pokémon!)

I understand that the development of emulators is more complicated than simply flipping a switch, so thank you in advance for your time and effort!

  Hardware differences between DS models
Posted by: Fortranm - 02-20-2018, 07:19 PM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

I just learned that different DS models have different ranges of potential base pointers for games like Gen 4 Pokemon.
Which one is the model that Desmume currently emulates, exactly? Is there a plan to make Medusa able to emulate different DS models?

ZL and ZR Button Mapping Not Working? (3DS Build/Port)
Posted by: Hucz - 02-02-2018, 06:54 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Hey endrift,
I just wanted to report back my testing of the latest build for the Nintendo 3DS. I am running the latest version/build of mGBA ported for the 3DS on my new Nintendo 2DS XL and noticed that when I mapped Interface keys to the ZL or ZR buttons, that they simply don't work. Which was unfortunate because I mapped the Cancel command to ZR and of course upon doing so, could not open the menu to reconfigue/assign the control to a different button. Thankfully I was able to edit the config.ini file and change the value from "15" to a different button, but so far no luck assigning any Interface command to either the ZL or ZR buttons on the new 3DS/2DS consoles. Also, I noticed there isn't a way to pull up the menu without first loading up a game? Maybe I'm missing a special button combo to do so, or can help contribute code to enable that feature if it doesn't currently exist.

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read this!

  .7z Archive Support (3DS Build/Port)
Posted by: Hucz - 02-02-2018, 04:15 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Is there .7z or .zip support for the 3DS build? If so, which method of archiving should I be using? It failed to load a couple of .7z archives that I tried that contained .gba files inside. I'm just trying to save as much space on my microSD card as possible. Thanks in advance.

  Libretro core vs. standalone?
Posted by: TBM - 01-31-2018, 02:54 PM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

I've been using the standalone for well over a year, but I'm wanting to be able to take advantage of the shaders that RetroArch lets you use compared to mGBA. In terms of accuracy, how does the Libretro core stack up to the standalone version on mGBA?
