mGBA can't detect my save files
Posted by: Hendrik498 - 05-13-2018, 08:26 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

I was playing GTA Advance, whatever happened and the game suddenly froze. No problem, I simply resetted the game to load my last save, but none of the saves were there, despite the .sav file still existing.

How can I fix this problem?

mGBA libretro core accuracy on other emulators than Bizhawk
Posted by: Gnuk - 04-30-2018, 05:59 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

Hello,

I discover some games in speedrun.com have those rules :

Code:
-Bizhawk with mGBA core is the preferred emulator, regular mGBA is also allowed but less recommended.

-Any other emulator will not be accepted for the leaderboards

So I tell the players on discord to understand why libretro mGBA core is not allowed for other emulators (like retroarch for example) and they answer me :

Code:
It's due to inaccuracy. Bizhawk with the mGBA core was found to be most accurate. We had other emus saving 30+ seconds due to running improperly which is a huge margin in a 15 min run

So i don't understand why any other emulators using mGBA libretro core could have a different accuracy :

Can you help me to understand if another emulator like retroarch using mGBA libretro is really less accurate and why ?

I'm sorry bothering you, but I don't know how to change filters. I'm already with the latest version: 0.6.3, but I don't see any button or option called Filter or anything. Can you please teach me how to change?

Bug Solar sensor settings not detected by game
Posted by: Solarkid - 04-24-2018, 05:21 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

I've tried every Boktai rom I have, all clean dums of the UE version and all of them react the same way. I've set the solar sensor up with shortcuts to raise and lower the sunlight setting, but unless I'm missing some kind of override somewhere nothing works. The gamepak override options are checked. I've also tried unchecked, not that that changes anything.
The games continue to react as though the solar sensor is broken and don't react to any setting. Is there a specific patch I missed or some tweak somewhere? I've searched here and the github and only found one mention of the solar sensor and they seemed to be having no trouble.
I know these games and feature are super niche, so I'm not expecting top priority, but if anyone could let me know if they've found a fix, I'm game to try.

Question Overclocking Option?
Posted by: Hot Violet - 04-17-2018, 12:08 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Hey. Firstly, please forgive me if this suggestion induces eye rolling or annoyance. I'm completely ignorant as to how these things work but I thought I may as well ask.

Would it be possible to add an overclock option to mGBA? If so, would it help games such as R-Type and Super G'n'G that suffer terrible slow down?

  Issues with 0.6.3
Posted by: ShadowOne333 - 04-16-2018, 06:17 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Hi there.

I am posting this in behalf of other people in GBATemp.

Apparently, the 0.6.3 regression caused some issues with some games:

Quote:Pokemon Red/Blue overworld sprites are messed up and menu open/close produces odd effects. All of it still absent on the nightly. Also on GBA Pokemon FireRed runs noticeably slower than LeafGreen. A problem again absent in the latest nightly.

Quote:Stable 0.6.3 has slight audio crackling in Golden Sun.

Quote:Now all that's left is fixing save states. (Try SML2 to see what I mean. Survival Kids is also affected in that big rocks can't be moved by a big stick anymore.)

All of these seem to be reports from the 3DS version of mGBA.
The crackling issue in Golden Sun might be because the user is running mGBA on a 3DS, which doesn't have consistent frame rate with GS or GS2. So that one could be ruled out.

As for the other two, I am not sure, I haven't tested them yet, but the user who reported the Golden Sun crackling issue also confirmed the Red/Blue overworld sprites problem as well.

Holding Shift prevents certain keys from being used
Posted by: o0lemonlime0o - 04-16-2018, 03:47 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

I'm currently playing Metroid Zero Mission and I have A and B set to my "/" and "." keys, respectively, and I have R set to the Shift key. While I'm holding down Shift, the A and B buttons don't work at all. I think the reason why is that when Shift is held down, the "/" key reads as "?" and "." reads as ">", which for some reason mGBA takes as a separate input. Regardless, I hope this issue gets fixed.

  Linux: Problems in saving
Posted by: TonTonJames - 04-16-2018, 08:37 AM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

Saving the state or in game saving works initially but after restarting my laptop, I'm no longer able to load my games afterwards. I tried finding the .sav file or where it's located but it's nowhere. There is a file that appears after I save it though and it's name is like this ".xdp_Pokemon - Fire Red Version  (U) (V1.1).zip.V7LOHZ" but I cannot use it to load the file after restarting my laptop.

mGBA crashes when I save to the battery.
Posted by: brownayy - 04-08-2018, 06:38 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Hi

I've been using mGBA on my Macbook to play Mother 3 and have been experiencing some issues. I can load my save fine, and savestates are working, but when I go to save ingame, as soon as it begins saving mGBA crashes instantly. This is frustrating as I'm quite far into the game and I really need to be able to save ingame, so that when I die I can return to my savepoint. This isn't possible with savestates as I will lose my level progress.

I tried downloading the latest mGBA but I get this message when running:

Code:
Check with the developer to make sure mGBA works with this version of macOS. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and macOS

I'm running MacOS High Sierra 10.13.4.

I have also tried loading the savestate, then moving the .sav file outside of the folder so mGBA would create a new one, just in case it was an issue with that save file. It did not work.

Help would be greatly appreciated
