Is mGBA link cable emulation deterministic?
Posted by: kakashidinho - 12-14-2018, 07:25 PM - Forum: Development - Replies (3)

Hi,
I'm new to mGBA, currently just playing around with code and experimenting ways to implement netplay feature.
What I noticed is that sometimes 2 local gba emulations when connected through link cable will result in different states (even when they started from same states and received same input sequences).

What I tried:
- open 2 gbas on PC A, then open 2 gbas on PC B.
- 2 gbas on the same machine were executed on the same thread (to avoid randomness of multithreading). 2 gbas in 2 machines started from same save states.
- Apply the same input sequences to the 2 gbas in 2 machines, at first the states keep being identical for a while. However at some point, they started behave differently.
- For example: on PC A, lockstep.useCycles(1, 499) was called, while on the other one, useCycles(1, 495) was called.

I'm not sure why the cycles value were called differently at that time. After that point, obviously the states of 2 gbas on 2 PCs were diverse.

  mGBA Library
Posted by: roracle - 12-12-2018, 05:00 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

Hello, and a greeting to start! This is my first post here, my name is...not important but you can call me "roracle". Smile
I'm glad to be here and hope I can get some help on my issue.

Okay, so I started doing emulation again and decided to give this a whirl. Here's the problem I'm facing though:

When I go to load a ROM, it doesn't save the location I was last using (/home/roracle/Emulation/GBA/roms/).
So I set up the library directory, and nothing was shown on the screen.
I had to select "Show when no game open" option, so the list showed up finally.
However, when I double click a title, it just sits there like a bump on a log.
Expected behavior: double click a title in the list view and start the game.

I'm using Ubuntu 18.10 (Budgie Desktop, basically a custom Gnome3)

Any help with this would be appreciated!  Thank you!

Solved - Config issues - any thoughts?
Posted by: Rashkavar - 12-09-2018, 10:13 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

I've looked around for a while now, found no relevant answers.  I've got mGBA installed on my laptop - a Linux Mint distro that's built off Ubuntu 16.04.  It'll load up a game just fine, but it doesn't seem to respond to any keys other than apostrophe (which advances 1 frame) and tab (which activates the speedy frame-skipping thing I think SNES9x came up with originally).

I've tried the default keys as listed by [man mgba], I've tried setting up a config file a couple of different ways.  There's no dropdown menus to work with that I can see (despite having seen them in screenshots online), or I'd be fine.  I must admit, not having a GUI config option puts me out of my depth immediately - by Linux user standards, I'm firmly in the camp that needs some hand-holding.

Anyone got some suggestions as to how to get it to accept keyboard input?  I'm probably missing something really dumb and easy, but I'm kinda out of ideas.

GBA games have corrupt save data?
Posted by: Ridley12 - 12-09-2018, 03:12 AM - Forum: Gaming - Replies (2)

So, I went to play Super Mario Advance 3, and it gave me "Your save data is corrupted." This also happened when I tried to play it on Visual Boy Advance. I have heard that changing the save type might help, but I'm not sure where to go to find the option.

  Virtual Gameboy printer
Posted by: FerdinandoPH - 12-01-2018, 09:04 PM - Forum: Development - Replies (2)

Hi!
I was just wondering if you could implement an option to make a virtual gameboy printer that instead of printing, it saves an image (.jpg or .png). It would be like in VisualBoy Advance
This is just an idea, but I think it could be nice
P.D : If you decide to do it, please enable this function in 3ds

Save File exists but will not load?
Posted by: kittiesandchaos - 11-27-2018, 02:06 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Hello there. I have been playing PokeMon Sapphire on mGBA version 0.6.1.0 and I saved a state last night to state 7. This morning when I try to load that state mGBA says "Save state 7 failed to load". The save state file is in the folder with the other save files, it is the same size as all the others. Is there anyway to fix it so that save state will load? All the other save states load perfectly fine. I will attach the save file for reference if that helps.

Happy to add any other info if needed. Thank you in advance!
