  C++ Wrapper for Scripting API
Posted by: cragson - 08-13-2023, 01:20 AM - Forum: Development - No Replies

Hi,

I don't know if this is the proper place to open this thread but I don't have access to any other dev related sections.

I programmed a little Wrapper for the Scripting API, which is written in C++ and could easily be ported to other languages like e.g. python.

With this Wrapper you can execute functions like e.g. reading or writing to memory, retrieve game code or title and sending key presses.

The wrapper works by setting up a TCP server on the C++ application and a TCP client with a LUA file on the emulator. Afterwards commands are sent from the server to the client and parsed in LUA and results are sent back.

I did it because it was a cool experiment for myself and also because I wanted to do external cheat's for some GBA games.
Also I chose to not read/write directly into the emulators process memory, so it could support more version's of mGBA (dependend of the script api and not e.g. byte signatures etc.)

This was pretty fun to me and I hope this could also be somewhat useful to you guys.
Everything is open-source and for you to access right away.
Also I'm quite busy but if I find any time to work on this in the future, I'll be more than happy to extend the current feature set and make it more stable.
Please be aware that this project was coded in 3-4 hours and I never messed with mGBA nor Lua before that.

Also I did already a small cheat for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team, which can be found here:

I'm always open for any kind of constructive feedback! Smile
Regards,
cragson

  Black screen after exit game
Posted by: chiarob - 08-07-2023, 10:49 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

Hi,

I downloaded mGBA for Wii. Everything seems to be working fine, except that after clicking "Exit game" the TV screen goes black and the only way to use the Wii again is to unplug the power cable and then plug it in again.

Thx for your help

  Disabling Full Screen
Posted by: mrmagoo1077 - 08-04-2023, 03:16 AM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

Anyone know of a way to permanently disable full screen in this Emulator? Or at least eliminating the behavior when you push a button twice ("A" I think) it automatically goes to full screen?

I am setting up a Windows based mini-pc for the kids in the car. The PC is completely controlled by an xbox controller (no keyboard/mouse). The issue is once a program goes full screen, it shuts down the Windows Controller controls, effectively locking the user into that program unless a full restart is done.

  File Types
Posted by: Tiger - 07-31-2023, 05:39 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

I just recently started using mGBA and I downloaded Theta Emerald to play. I saved it to save slot 1 and when I went to play on it, it was gone. I checked my files and noticed there was a save but it was the wrong file type. It was a .sav file. I was wondering if there is any way I could play on that save state again.

Holding Start and Select to exit game.
Posted by: Mx159guitar - 07-19-2023, 01:05 AM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

Hello, this is by far my favorite gba emulator out but I was wondering if it was possible to make it so when you hold start and select at the same time, the game exits and when you start the game up again, it picks up right at that location. I'm using a steam deck so I'm not sure if doing that is different or possible. Can anyone help?

Thanks

GBA Pokemon cheat codes not working? (Mac)
Posted by: Lazar G - 07-17-2023, 03:28 AM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

I'm emulating Pokemon FireRed on my MacBook Air, and I started using some cheat codes. I used a cheat code to get a metal coat from the poke mart, and it actually worked! but now I'm trying to use a cheat code to get a Scyther wild encounter, and it's not working. Any reason for this?

I can link the cheat codes I am using if needed (I tried multiple)

  travel to los angeles
Posted by: michstrong - 07-07-2023, 11:23 PM - Forum: Chatter - Replies (1)

I have decided to move to Los Angeles, why LA? Several times now I go on vacation there and I feel extremely in love with the beautiful city, besides driving my car there is an incredible feeling, on the other hand, here in Boston I feel bored, this state is not for me, that's why I had decided to leave, but I need to take all my things from Boston to LA and my question is how do I do it? It is impossible for all my things to fit in my car, I don't see the point in buying them again, I also have things that have a lot of sentimental value, so what should I do? Does anyone here have an idea to get all my stuff from Boston to Los Angeles?

Feature Request: Compatibility with the Advance Game Port
Posted by: Pointy Orb - 07-03-2023, 01:45 PM - Forum: Development - Replies (1)

There was this third party accessory for the Gamecube, called the Advance Game Port. It consisted of a dongle that plugs into a Memory Card slot on one end, & a slot to play GBA cartridges on the other. The other part was a disc, which could read what was on the Port, and ran a quite subpar emulator.
On the Gamecube, it's obsolete in the face of the Game Boy Player, but on the Wii, it's the only way to play GBA games off the cartridge.
I was wondering if maybe we could find some way to get the Wii version on mGBA to read what was on the Port, and play GBA games on an emulator that works much better than Datel's offerings.

A link explaining the Port in more detail + pictures

I know nothing about coding with Wii homebrew, but I will accept any way I can help!
