Saving in game or in gba file?

I’ve been wondering if saving in game is preferred than saving on file? It’s because for GBA4IOS they prefer the player to save in game than on the gba app, soo which is it for windows mGBA? In game or on file? Both?

I'm not sure what you mean by this? Do you mean in-game saving vs "quick saving"/savestates?
