How to apply cheats

Can someone lend a hand? I'm trying to apply cheats to my pokemon ruby on mac and the codes aren't working
i can't actually put them in properly as far as i have looked up but i don't actually know how to do it

Which version are you using, what game, and which cheats? There were some fixes that haven't made it into a release version yet, but the nightlies should have it.

i'm using 5.0 i think but i got it off emuparadise and pokemon ruby with cheats from neoseeker
oh and mac os x

i saw another post on this website saying you have to put it in a certain way but i'm not sure how
