SAV file from mGBA not updating on different emulator

I was trying to keep a synced save file between my PC (mGBA latest stable) and iPod touch (gpSPhone). The SAV file written by mGBA can be read by my iPod touch but it can't update it.
I didn't find that issue with VBA - I was able to modify the save file (after changing the extension) on both devices.
I only switched to mGBA as it runs fairly well in fullscreen on my system.

Tried with the new version (0.5.0) - Still the same result. I am able to read the updated save file from mGBA in the gpsPhone emulator, but I am not able to write to that. I don't see any permission issues as I have made the save file modifiable by everyone.
