Saving cheats causes crash..
#1
Hi there, just playing with the brand new version, loaded up Minish cap and added 2 codebreaker cheats to it and tried to save the cheats then crash...

As said its MGBA 0.5.0 on Windows 7 X64, No UAC in use, running off a caddy, all other stuff seems to work and crashed on the nightly builds too..

Any idea's please..

Games seem fine, just the saving of the cheat...

Game override saving also crashes MGBA..

Can you post the cheats you tried to save?

Yeah sure, both for Legend of Zelda Minish cap US, cheats do work....Both codebraker types..

Don't forget that if you save in the Game Overides section it also causes a crash.

here are the codes..

Thanks...I even removed the whole settings folder in roaming and it still did the same..

It's too bad Windows' crash logs are completely useless, or else I might actually be able to do something with them. But as it stands, I haven't been able to reproduce this.

Perhaps you could create a crashdump engine for this sort of stuff, might save you some head ache...

Are there any dependencies that perhaps I don't have installed on my Win 7 X64 machine, I reinstalled the Visual C++ redistributal, anything along that line I may need to update. Its a standard old but known Geforce GT530 with the latest driver, DirectX June release (ire the latest).

At a loss to imagine what it could be, I run just about most retro emulators on this i7 and I have no issues with them but there's got to be a reason this crashing for me, might try running it in Safe mode so there very few drivers loaded and see if that helps?

As said, any idea's for what I might be missing would be great help..

Paul...

Btw, apart from this issue its a lovely little emulator, thank you so much for developing it...

Just tried the Safe mode way and I could not even load a rom properly, it loaded and crashed...

So back to any suggestions Smile

I've turned off Kaspersky and any little programs I use that are running in the background...

HELP Smile

Just a wee bump regarding anything I need to have installed to run MGBA that might be missing hence the crashes on my machine?

Thanks

Are you trying new builds? I've fixed a number of crashes recently but I honestly have no idea what could be causing this one.

Hi and thank you,

Yes, you fixed the game over rides crash and and I now know the saving crash is because of the codebreaker part, action replay cheats save fine..

One odd thing tho, I tried last nights nightly and it would not recognise my Minish cap sav file and then much to my horror it made a new one losing all the progress I'd made. The only difference was I'd set up the GBA Bios to be used between my last play and now.

Not really worried about the loss of save game as I was only on the second objective and apart from that its the risk you take with nightly builds but thought I'd let you know.

Below is one of the codebreaker codes that causes a crash when you save, the other one is earlier in the thread in case you want it, weird the code works but won't save?

Thanks again

Paul.

I was finally able to reproduce it today. Not sure what changed, but it was a really easy fix once I could actually catch it in a debugger.
