What version of the standalone are you using?

0.7-5003-789a84d2, and I'm using the most updated version of the core.

That's pretty old. Try seeing if the latest standalone has the same issues

Okay, so here's my finding with the audio. With 0.7-5003-789a84d2, there's no audio limiting and there seems to be no sound quality loss. With 0.7-5199-9ed127d5, there's a noticeable limiting, but no sound quality loss. With the newest Libretro core, there's limiting and a sound quality loss.
Here's the audio of all three. Same order as the screenshots: https://dbr.ee/xVtQ
Make sure you listen with headphones.
So in order, out of what I've tested. 0.7-5003-789a84d2 is the best, 0.7-5199-9ed127d5 is the second best, and the latest core is the worst. You'll notice how harsh 1 and 3 sound compared to 2.
Edit: I just tested 0.5.2 standalone and it's identical to 0.7-5003-789a84d2.

That's really strange, that uses GBA audio which I thought the only change I'd made between 5003 and 5199 was to increase the volume. Hm...can you see if 5113/5114 is where it breaks?

Yep, that's it. Can you send me the Libretro core for 5113 or earlier? I'd like to test that too.
